Study Examines Parent-Adolescent Agreement About Adolescents’ Suicidal Thoughts
Article Discussion Addresses Major Public Health Concern
An article in the January 2019 issue of Pediatrics, “Parent-Adolescent Agreement About Adolescents’ Suicidal Thoughts,” examines responses of participants in a study related to adolescent suicide. The article notes adolescent suicide is the second leading cause of death among 10- to 24-year-olds in the United States, and more than two-thirds of adolescents experiencing suicidal thoughts do not receive mental health services.
Families were recruited from a large pediatric health care network. Adolescents and parents completed a clinical interview that included questions about adolescents’ lifetime suicidal thoughts.
