“Intellectual Disability: Diagnosis, Support, Waivers, and Transitioning to Adult Care” - Spring 2025

The EPSDT grant program based at the Center for Disabilities and Development (CDD) provides guidance, training and resources for providers that care for Iowa’s kids who are eligible for Medicaid’s wellness benefits. These “EPSDT” benefits ensure children and youth up to their 21st birthdays receive Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment services. This includes annual well visits, immunizations, developmental screenings and follow-up treatments, and more.

The EPSDT grant program publishes the “Care for Kids” newsletter three times each year. This year’s spring issue has just been published and features a lead article by a “blended” team of CDD staff. CDD psychologist, Jillian Reiher, UCEDD program manager and employment specialist, Judy Warth, and CDD social worker, Sally Rieck, collaborated on the article, “Intellectual Disability: Diagnosis, Support, Waivers, and Transitioning to Adult Care.” In the article, they focus on a variety of topics, such as testing and diagnosis, interventions and support, and healthcare and advocacy.

The newsletter issue also offers an opportunity to direct providers to the new self-paced course, “Providing Quality Care for People with Disabilities,” which was developed by our LEND program. The course if featured on one side of the newsletter tear-out, with a flyer for CDD’s Transition to Adulthood Clinic on the other side.
